Happy Tails

Little Cooper, formerly Ace, has been with us for a year now and he is the sweetest little guy you'd ever meet. Cooper trusted us immediately and we're so happy to have him. He's a brave little guy full of energy but he also loves his snuggles and is so loyal and loving. I highly recommend Carolina Canine Rescue. They provided Cooper with excellent medical care prior to adoption and his trusting disposition shows how nurturing his foster family was. Our family is very grateful.

We adopted Sadie from North Carolina Rescue, when our Lhasa Apso of 18 years passed away  in November of 2022.  Sadie is now settled in to our family, and we love her so much!  She has learned to potty outside now, and sleeps at the foot of our bed, but comes for cuddles first thing in the morning.  We are blessed to have her as our family member.  Thank you so much for allowing us to be her new family!

Tessa and Lola and happy puppies!  They're almost 10 months old.  We adopted them at 9 wks old and changed Tiana to Lola.  They love to run around the backyard, chase each other, and play tug-of-war with all their chew toys!  They are well behaved on a leash.  They keep us busy

After losing our Bernese mountain dog we were devasted and thought we could never fill our hearts again. Then I came across the picture of Beau and knew he was meant to be ours. Melanie and her team are the most devoted animal lovers that go to lengths to make sure their animals end up in the right home. We are forever grateful for trusting us with Beau, the sweetest dog who loves our kids and watches over them always. I always thought having little kids that it was smarter to purchase a dog who's history and breed we knew and I am forever changed. These rescues need our love and trust and repay us tenfold. Forever grateful for Melanie and Betty.

April 2, 2022
We lost our family dog in October. I was adamant
about not getting another. However, on a whim, I was
looking at dogs online and ran across Beau and
siblings. My husband (who has wanted another dog all
along) said, "Fill out an application and see what
happens"
That was on a weekend in January. One week later, Beau was here. Delivered directly to our doorstep! He has been here approximately 2 1/2 months and we can't imagine him not ever having been here. Beau is is now 32lbs. He is happy and healthy and full of spunk! He's also curious and is transitioning well.
We highly recommend Carolina Canine Rescue.
Melanie is wonderful! the communication was great  and she made this such a simple process! You can tell she truly cares about her fosters and wants only the best for them.  Melanie also helped us arrange transportation for Beau.  Walt was just as wonderful as Melanie-he kept us updated his entire trip and his rate is more than fair. We appreciate both of them tremendously.
Thank you to everyone involved at CCR! We
appreciate all you do for our four-legged friends. You
certainly added a bright light to our winter doldrums
here in New Hampshire!
Fondly,

Paula & Mark Houde

Skipper (formerly Captain) happily became the little brother to Ranger after his previous potential adoption fell through. After raising 4 boys mom knew just one dog in the family was just not right and decided it was the perfect time to find a playmate for Rranger and expand the family. Thinking we wanted a predominantly labrador like Ranger for playing on our great backyard at the beach there was Skipper with his half blue eyes looking for his new home. While Ranger wa a local rescue, dad became convinced that making the 5 hour drive to the western part of NC was the right thing to do. Thank you so much Melanie for working with through the adoption process and enabling us to make Skipper a part of the family! Did I mention that despite his lab father and part shepherd mother - Skipper is 17+ breeds with Husky being predominant. The only part of Wisdom Panels DNA analysis was his grown weight of 90+ -  thank goodness! He is a muscular 46 lbs. and has just enough water dog input for his webbed feet and his swimming ability.

  • This is me when I got to my new home, my name use to be Pearl. Now it is Savannah!

I love my new home, my Mom and Daddy love me a whole lot. We are working on going potty outside and not inside unless on a puppy pad. I love to play with my sister and Mommy, she is so fun. I cuddle with her when my sister is busy with my other sister Kaley. She is really old so my sister sleeps with her sometimes so she isn't alone under her blanky. I run and play, I cuddle, and am learning to catch a ball. Thank you all for taking such good care of me. And thank you for finding my wonderful family who say they are blessed the day I came home to them.

We adopted ViVi one year ago today from Carolina Canine Rescue. When I picked her up from Betty she was completely shaved and looked nothing like the long haired Havanese in the pics, my family kept saying you adopted the wrong dog. Well I knew from day one, not only was she the right dog, is the perfect dog for me. ViVi is even more beautiful now and the ultimate velcro dog. We can't thank you all enough for bringing this beautiful little girl into our lives.

We highly recommend Carolina canine rescue. We adopted our dog “Jake” on December 17th 2021.

The process was simple and they worked with us to make sure we were a good fit for Jake.

You need to be patient. These people do this important work as volunteers so they do have real lives and may not be able to get everything done as quickly as some city run shelter, or a breeder where the staff is actually paid to do the work. The process may take 7 or 8 days but it’s worth it!  We found the best way to contact them is through email. I recommend you check in with them if you don’t hear back in 7 days (that’s what we did) to let them know just how much you want to adopt your new best friend.

I am happy we decided to adopt from a small rescue organization rather than a large shelter. I think the fact that Jake came from more of a foster home environment rather than some huge shelter with dogs everywhere, barking and afraid in cages made his transition to our home much easier on all of us.

Carolina canine made it easy for us to pick Jake up and gave us a few great tips on how to work with him and help him acclimate. They also work with drivers that will deliver your dog to you but we wanted to make sure Jake would get along with our one and a half year old pup before we brought him home. We let the boys meet each other on neutral ground and they are the best of friends now.

He has been with us for a little over a week now and it feels like he has always been a member of the family.

He had been neutered and was up to date on all of his shots. We were given all of the history and paperwork we needed to get Jake checked in and registered with our vet. He passed his checkup with flying colors!

Our best friends operate a Lab rescue so we know how hard these people work to save dogs and make sure they find their forever homes.

We lost our dog of 12 years when she passed a few months ago and we were ready to share our love with someone who needed us just as much as we need him.

Thank you Carolina canine!

Gary Morton

We are so happy we were able to find Poppy!  She is the light  that we needed.  We lost our 13 year old mix breed with cancer.  Our mini schnauzer Chester lost his best buddy.  I can see the light in his eyes again and ours as well.  She has already brought us so much joy!

Thank you Carolina Canine Rescue for what you do and matching  up forever homes for all the fur babies!

Scarlett, Bob and Meredith

We adopted Penn last weekend and immediately he fit in perfect with our family! We have a five year old rescue labradoodle and they became best friends right away! He is just so sweet and brings so much more love to our little family! Thank you for all that you do and giving us this wonderfully fur baby!

Genevieve, dale, willow, penn!

After our 16 year old, Angie passed we knew we wanted to get another dog to be a companion to our 13 year old Penny, who is a Chug.  I searched on the internet for many different rescues & shelter to find another Chug.   We have fell in love with this breed ever since we got Penny 13 years ago.  With knowing that Penny is up in years & that we could lose her soon we wanted to get a dog now instead of waiting.

I saw that there were Pomerians available in GA & there was a chug in Richmond, VA.  We live in Horntown, VA right near the MD line.  We were willing to drive for the right dog.  We saw Tillie bio & we knew she was the one.  She is past the puppy stage but still  youthful & I wanted a lovable dog that would snuggle with me.  As our Penny has aged she does not want snuggles as much.

We drove over 7 hours each way to Martinsville, VA to pick up Tillie.  She was a little timid at first .  She did not want to leave the foster mother.  We decided to drive back to Horntown instead of spending the night & have her disrupted again.  She was such an angel on the drive in the car.  I sat in the back seat & loved on her from time to time.  She was still quite shy.  My husband & I switched drivers & he sat in the back seat with Tillie.  Tillie whined & wanted to come up front with me.  After about 15 minutes she made her way to the fron passager seat.  She sat there the rest of the way home.  My poor husband had to sit in the back!

She was scared at first as we expected.  We gave her space & let her explore the house.  She met our other dog Penny & they had no gumbles about each other.  Later she met our cat, Lovey.  Tille could care less about her but our cat insisted on hissing at her.  Almost every time they meet Lovey will his at her.  Tillie will perk up her ears & move on.

Tillie is the most loveable dog I have ever had.  From the 1st night she has slept right next to me.  She waits for me to give her permission to get up on the bed then she proceeds to give me a mulitude of kisses.  When she settles down she put her head under the covers with her behind sticking most of the time.  Sometimes she will go all the way under the sheets.  She sleeps there all night like a perfect lady.  She insists on sitting with me on the living room recliner.  (it is a tight fit).  She has learned where the treats are kept & when the dogs get their treats.  I cannot image why anyone would give her up.  She is our baby & she is not going anywhere but with us.  She loves her doggy beds & likes to stretch out in them during the day.  She uses the doggy door like a pro.  She is so sweet, loveable & snuggable.  We are so glad she has joined our family.

Rescues are the best dogs.  The appreciate the love & kindness we give them & give you undying love in return.  Thank you Carolina Canine Rescue for all that you do to help these angels.

I adopted Bartlet (previously "Little Little") in September 2014 as a companion for my corgi, Bonnie. He was shy, submissive, and extremely anxious at first, but has since settled into my family and my heart so completely. Thanks so much to Carolina Canine Rescue for your care of Bartlet in the fostering and adoption process, and for arranging to get him to us all the way in Upstate NY! [Follow @bonnieandbartlet on Instagram for more Bartlet success photos!]

  • Peanut with his sisters Daisy, Bella & Coco (he's the fawn colored one in front)

It seems like yesterday that Peanut made the trip from Carolina Rescue in North Carolina to North Tonawanda, New York. He's been the joy of my life an can't believe 5 years has gone by. I remember waiting anxiously to hear that he was available and that I met the requirements and then for the day to arrive - I have been blessed every day since. He was only 12 lbs when I got him and we all wondered if he would grow into his ears - he's now 23 lbs.  Thank you Carolina Rescue for saving my baby!

We adopted Jax (previously known as Cooper) in January 2014 and he has brought such joy into our lives ever since. He's now 6 1/2 years old and the most perfect, lovable, good boy. I can't imagine life without him. Thank you so much for bringing him into our lives!!

Steph & Tony

We adopted Tank 9 months ago and we can't imagine our lives without him. He is smart, playful and affectionate. He is loved by eveyone he meets. He is one of the family and he knows it. Thank you to Carolina Canine Rescue and David his foster family.

Harley is settling in nicely. He gets along with our cat also. Thank you for choosing us to be Harleys adopters . We are thrilled to give him a loving, forever home.

(Gary was found lying on the side of the road so close to death that he could barely lift his head, nothing but skin and bones. With proper vet care, good food, and lots of TLC, Gary has fully recovered and is now in his new home, happy as a clam!)

From his new owner-

Gary was a little shy his first night but one day has made a big difference as he is one happy pup! We’re going to get a license today and if it doesn’t rain we’ll go to the dog park with a vet visit later this week. He’s done well on a leash (except when he sees the neighbor cats) walking around our property. Thank you again for your assistance and your organization!

6 month update

Good evening,
My wife and I adopted Stanley from you guys back in June. We just wanted to give you guys an update on this big boy.
Stanley is now about 9 months and 75 lbs. He loves running around and going to the dog park to play with all the other dogs. He’s very sweet and loves to give everyone he meets licks! He’s a very smart boy and has graduated from beginner and intermediate classes. He has two kitty brothers that he loves to chase around the house. He’s a big goofball but we’re so happy that you chose us to be his parents. He’s the best dog we could’ve asked for.
Thanks again. Hope you guys have a great holiday.

Thank you again for rescuing this girl! She brings joy to her entire world. She loves everyone she meets and everyone loves her! She gets along great with her kitty brothers and greyhound brother. We wonder if she may have some basset hound mixed in as she is quite a calm puppy, though she does have her crazy zoomy spells at 9:00 pm every day! Lol. Enjoy the pictures and I'll let you know when she gets spayed in a couple of months. Take care!

Hi there,
Just wanted to send you an update on our girl Ashley! We've had her one week now and she's been absolutely amazing. Her personality started to show early this week and we couldn't be happier. She is the funniest, sweetest, most cuddly girl! She loves her "twin" sister Brooklyn! They follow each other everywhere. Brooklyn wasn't always keen of other dogs but she fell in love with Ashley instantly! Bringing ashley home was one of the best decisions we've made this year!
Thank you again!!! Here are some more pictures and Ashley and Brooklyn:

Cannoli's (Warrior's) first summer

Hi! Just sending a quick update on our happy growing boy! Cannoli was fixed in the beginning of June. He weighs about 60/65 lbs. He has been spending his summer swimming in the lake & running his energy out at the dog park. He loves a good campfire & is known to sit & watch the fire for hours. He is so super loving & so playful. Our hearts are so full! How quickly our world has changed & it seems all moments revolve around him!

We would love to get in touch with his siblings, so if by chance any of them are looking to get in touch maybe for a play date please share our contact info with them! Or if they've sent you any photos we would love to see what they look like now. Can't thank you guys enough for approving our adoption, he really has changed our lives in an amazing way.

Subject: Celebrating our 1 Year Anniversary of Sammy's Gotcha Date!

Hi Melanie and Carolina Canine Rescue Team,

One year ago today we welcomed Sammy (previously known as Shaggy) into our lives.  He is a wonderful, loving, sweet, cuddly, adorable pup and we cannot imagine our lives without him.  Sammy continues to fill our lives with love, licks, and lots of joy.  He loves to take walks and to play and is a perfect companion for us.  We cannot thank you enough for giving us the opportunity to bring Sammy into our home and our lives.  We love him and are grateful for the work you do to give these special dogs a chance for the lives they deserve.

Sincerely yours,

Ellen & Steven

Hi Melanie,
We want to let you know that everything went perfectly when we picked up Shaggy (whom we renamed Sammy) from the transport on Saturday morning.  We have had a wonderful few days with our darling dog and he is as sweet in person as he was in his video.  We called Home Again yesterday and got Sammy's microchip registered and ordered his permanent tag.  Today we went to the vet and got Sammy started on his heartworm prevention medication.  We also visited our town clerk and got his dog license.  He has already brought so much joy to our lives and we are head over heels in love with him.  Once again we want to thank you and your organization, especially the foster families and transport teams, for the amazing work you do.

Sincerely yours,

Ellen & Steven

Hi, I don't want to sound redundant but We are so in love with Ally!! and the feeling is definitely mutual :-) Her favorite place to sleep is between me and my husband on one of our pillows . I bought her the same kind of food you had been feeding her and she is eating well. Having fun chasing the squirrels and the chipmunks in the backyard. She is so fast and she hops like a bunny rabbit. It is so cute ! She went with me to the post office today, was a champ in the car. And when I go to work on Thurs. I am going to bring her to the office to meet my co-workers and then my son will take her home.I love how gentle she is with her toys and her sweet kisses. My bathroom door doesn't shut tightly so she right away when I go in there pushes the door open and lays on the rug in front of the sink. She is funny. I love her so very much!!! thank you again 1million times !! :-)
If you ever need me to use as a reference for your organization I would be happy to.

Fondly,

Debi

Diamond is settling in. She has acclimated quite well. She has made friends with my daughters dog and they play like crazy when we go there.

She is doing well with leash walking and learning commands. I am working with a trainer some to get started off right.
Thank you very much!

Hi Melanie,

Just wanted to give you an update on Princess Leia now called Esme.  We are so lucky to have gotten her.  She is an absolute angel with no exaggeration.  She is loving, kind, smart, and obedient.   She learned the dog door in 3 days and is completely house trained and a great listener.   We absolutely love her.  She is such a perfect loving little dog.   Honestly, we could not have gotten or trained a better dog.

We appreciate what you do, and wanted to know that she got a great loving home.   She is very happy.   About a month after getting Esme we got a 1 year old Rat Terrier Rescue called Tula.  They are absolutely best friends, and love each other.  Esme is extremely loved and part of our family.

All the best,

Lee and Karen Rockey

Buddy is doing wonderful.  We adore him!  He IS as sweet and adorable as you said he would be!!  We gave him a nice, warm bath and he looks beautiful.  I am making an appointment with the groomer today.  Walter is such a nice man!  I'm happy to know Buddy was in such good hands during his transport. He is being very spoiled, as this little boy so deserves.  Thank you for fostering him and taking care of him!! We are sooo happy to have him apart of our family!! ❤

Hi Melanie,

Skippy is now "Finch" and Barbie is now "Wren".  They are so sweet!.  I think they are perfect for us.   They're really timid and very reluctant to come to us-once we sweet talk them into getting close enough, they don't want us to stop touching them.

Thanks for what you do!

Hi Melanie,
Dixie has been doing great in obedience, and therapy too.She has her Rally Novice title and today she got her Beginners Novice Obedience title with a first place score!!!!!  She also has all the CGC titles and finished her Tail Waggin' Tutor qualification, but we're still going to keep going to the library. So we're going to stay with the TWT, Rally and Obedience and see how many titles she can get.  So far her name is Yeandle's Dixie, CGC CGCA CGCU TDI TDIA TDIAOV TWT RN BN  and I still have to apply for the AKC therapy titles.

So, Dixie is doing great and once she gets going she just keeps on going.  I feel bad, tho, bkz the winter was so cold, we didn't get many serious walks in, but now that it's getting nicer outside, we can go for longer walks.

And she is really smart- in the morning, she automatically goes to the left for her longer walks, and in the evening, she goes to the right to pee and then just automatically goes back to the door to come in.  And when we started going to obedience classes, it was really weird, bkz she knew some things that I never really had to teach her.  She knew where heel position and how to get there  from standing in front of me, so someone taught here something at some time.
I'm just so happy with her, thank you again.

 Hi Melanie,
Just wanted to let you know that Dixie passed her Therapy Dog Test on Saturday!!!  Now she can go to nursing homes, hospitals, and my favorite is to go to the library to let kids read to her.  They really seemed to like that when I did it with my previous dog.  Can't wait to get started.  If not for the paperwork

Hi Melanie!

I just wanted to let you know how incredibly happy we are with Snowbell (who we now call Bailey Bell)! She is just the sweetest, snuggliest, smartest dog ever, and is everything our family could ask for in a canine companion.

We were very nervous about adopting a dog we'd never met and putting her through such a long trip, but even my husband agrees that it was the right call, because we would've missed out on our perfect dog if we hadn't taken the risk!

Thank you again for all of your help and for saving her in the first place, your organization is really wonderful, and we are so happy that Bailey Bell is finally home!

Sincerely,

Hillary Teremy

Hi!

Things are going GREAT!  What an awesome dog!  We feel incredibly fortunate to have Ralphie in our lives, and he seems to be comfortable with us, too.  He has just merged right into the rhythm of our lives without missing a beat.  Our younger daughter, the one who is scared of dogs, is doing amazingly well, too.  Of course there are a few things he can work on, like not jumping on people, and having better leash manners, but even with those things he is fantastic.  We start obedience classes this coming Tuesday so we can be the best dog/owners team we can be!  Thank you again for this opportunity, and for saving Ralphie from the high-kill shelter!
